Liv
Liv is an active kid who loves to play soccer, swim for the neighborhood swim team, and ride her bike. Liv loves Messi and NC Courage. At age 6, her family discovered a bump on her ribcage. After numerous appointments and tests, Liv had surgery to remove what they thought was a benign cyst. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a rare type of sarcoma. Liv had a second surgery to ensure clear margins. Luckily, they caught the tumor early.
Liv is now healthy! She does quarterly appointments and testing to make sure that the tumor is not coming back. The hardest part about her surgeries and recovery was missing soccer and daily activities. Her family shares her story in order to advocate for early detection. They believe that all parents and guardians should check their children, pay close attention to any new bump or spot, and push for second opinions and testing. Liv raced in the Chapel Hill triathlon last year and plans to do it again!
