Olivia

Olivia was an avid lacrosse player before her cancer diagnosis, she is a huge UNC fan (her parents Alma Mater), loves animals (especially her 2 kitties and a dog) and going to the beach. Olivia was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in her right hip weeks before her 16th birthday. What was thought to be a sports injury (growth plate inflammation from overuse) was not determined to be cancer until after 6 months of doctor visits. By that time, the cancer had spread to her lungs.

Olivia completed 31 days of radiation to eliminate the tumor on her pelvic bone. She was not a good candidate for surgery, so radiation and chemotherapy are her only options. She is completing 3 more months of chemotherapy before a final round of radiation will be done for her lungs. Recent scans have shown the tumor has shrunk by 80% and the lesions on her lungs are gone.

Olivia’s mother left work in order to care for her full time. JUST TRYAN IT provided Olivia’s family with an emergency relief grant to help cover their mortgage. The family is grateful for the support of JUST TRYAN IT in a time when mounting medical bills were tough to cover on a single income. Her mother’s physical presence throughout this journey has made a world of difference for the mental health of both mom and daughter. Olivia’s mother said, “This is nothing short of a miracle, and we are encouraged for the rest of the road we are on.”
