A Diagnosis That Changed Everything
On December 23, 2009, just as most families were preparing for the holidays, Ryan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Instead of festive gatherings, the Darby family faced a terrifying and exhausting road ahead.
Ryan’s treatment plan would span 3½ years, beginning with three intense weeks in the hospital. Chemotherapy, steroids, scans, blood draws, injections—days filled with procedures and uncertainty became their new reality.
Strength, Support, and Hope
The Darbys were fortunate. Ryan’s prognosis was hopeful, and they were surrounded by a strong community of friends and family who supported them in every possible way. The journey was long and painful, but today Ryan is a healthy, thriving young man.
Ryan has transformed his experience into purpose. He advocates for other children battling cancer, speaks publicly to raise awareness, and inspires all of us with his personal motto:
“Never Look Back.”
